The 27-year-old has not featured regularly for Dortmund with the German side looking to save some money on his salary by allowing the forward to leave on loan with Newcastle United and Stoke City reportedly among those interested in his services.
Although the 'Blacks and Yellows' would prefer to send him on an 18-month loan, his wages would be too high for most suitors to pay so the club has accepted that they will most likely have to continue paying half of his £150,000-a-week wages.
Schurrle completed his £25m move from Wolfsburg to Dortmund in 2016 on a five-year deal but has only made 25 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring five goals.
Premier League fans may remember the German from his short stint at Chelsea where he won the Premier League under Jose Mourinho in the 2014-15 season, despite leaving the club half-way through the season for his home country.
