The derby began well for Klopp's side, quickly taking the upper hand, and asserting their control through Mane's early goal. Everton seemed shaken after the goal, but managed to throw a couple of punches, not causing too much trouble for Mignolet.
Just before the half-hour mark, woeful defending from Liverpool after an Everton corner kick saw Pennington score his first Everton goal. The youngster was having a mixed game, which would be confirmed two minutes later when he allowed Coutinho to curl in a beautiful shot to restore Liverpool's lead.
The home side began the second forty-five minutes as the stronger side, with the Toffees struggling to create chances. Lukaku barely got a sight on goal as, set pieces aside, the home side were solid defensively.
Everton were beginning to pick up the pace when Origi, who had come on for an injured Mane, finished off the visitors. The goal came after a magical move from Coutinho who fed the ball to the Belgian.
From then on, Everton seemed to give up. Klopp will be happy with his side's performance, with the victory seeing his team go above City, as well as continuing the 13-match unbeaten streak against Everton.
