Al Sadd will be the last team to enjoy the class of Xavi Hernandez, the standard-bearer of the best generation of the Spanish National Team and Barcelona. A superlative footballer, a leader, a winner. He leaves behind 35 titles -he could still add two more-, 35 trophies won in the different cities he played in.
His way of understanding football was always the one he was instilled in La Masia, of which he always boasted. Touch, control, domination. Football with capital letters. Thanks to him, Barcelona and Spain lived the best years of their history. Those were wonderful years for Xavi, the title collector.
With Barça he won eight leagues, four Champions, three Copa del Rey, eight Spanish Supercups, two European Supercups and two Club World Cups. With Spain came a U20 World Cup, two Euro Cups and the unforgettable World Cup in South Africa. In Qatar, Xavi won Emir's Cup, Prince's Cup, Supercopoa and League.
He still has two more titles at stake, as he himself confirmed in his farewell letter. Now, the Xavi player wants to become a top-level coach. Experience and wisdom will not be a problem, he just needs to find the right project.
On an individual level there will always remain the memory of the Ballon D'Or he deserved but never got, especially in the year of the World Cup. He did manage to be five times in the UEFA team of the year, in the ideal team of the 2010 World Cup and to be named MVP of the 2008 Euro Cup.
