Why Aubameyang chose Gabon over France

"Players often take their time to consider their options and make the right choice, but for me the choice was clear," he said. 

The Gunners striker's father, 'Yaya' Aubameyang is the former captain of the Gabon national side. Keen to follow in his father's footsteps, the choice was an easy one for Pierre-Emerick.

"I played for the French under-21 team, but I realised very quickly that in my heart I wanted to emulate my father," Aubameyang added. 

Another player in a similar situation is Southampton's Mario Lemina. Born in Paris, Lemina too opted to play for Gabon to honour his family heritage. 

Both players now fly the African nation's flag in the Premier League. Fans in Gabon will be hoping to see more of their heroes represent them in top flights across the world.
