When the fastest players in English football raced 100m before the Cup final at Wembley

The fastest players from Hull, Notts County, Reading, Swansea, Sheffield United, QPR, Bournemouth and Mansfield took their marks on the start line after succeeding in six regional heats.

Given the name Rumbelows Sprint Challenge, the 100 metre race down the side of the Wembley pitch with each player sporting their own club's full kit and boots was the perfect warm-up to the main event: the League Cup (or Rumbelows Cup) final.

Swansea’s John Williams, known as the Flying Postman, having recently given up his day job came first, before confidently revealing he had bet hundreds of pounds on himself. Truly surreal.
