When Suarez cried 'Red' tears

It's been five years since his last match in a Liverpool jersey. On 11th May 2014, Luis Suarez set foot on the Anfield pitch for the last time. Weeks of rumours predicted that he would leave Merseyside for Spain (Madrid and Barcelona were both potential destinations)... and such an opportunity was hard to refuse.
The love affair between Liverpool and Luis Suarez lasted three and a half years, but it was intense, so intense that the striker has not forgotten it. A place in the club's history books was built on goals (82 goals and 27 assists in 133 games) and became one of the fans most beloved players.
Since his arrival during the winter of 2011, Steven Gerrard, the embodiment of the 'Reds' spirit, reached out to him. With the blessing of the captain, the striker took his place in the fans' hearts. His dedication and willingness towards the club meant Anfield fell in love with him.
In his time as a Red he lifted one trophy, the Carling Cup, but also lived through one of the club's great nightmares in recent years. It was a game against Crystal Palace that neither the fans nor Suarez will ever forget.
The fateful day was 5th May 2014, when Liverpool and City, two weeks from the end of the season, were tied on points at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool went 3-0 up (with Suarez scoring a goal), but ended up drawing due to Crystal Palace's historic comeback in the last eleven minutes.
The draw was follwed by a Manchester City victory, caused Liverpool to kiss goodbye to the title. It was a heavy blow for Luis Suarez weeks before the worst moment of his career (biting Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup). The Uruguayan finished the game completely destroyed.
Gerrard came to console him, but could do nothing. He cried, although his tears could not be seen, as he covered his face with the same jersey he will be confronted with this Wednesday. It will be his second reunion after a summer friendly in 2016, but this time there is a final to play for.
