"We were closer to knocking Madrid out than Chelsea and City"

Pochettino believes PSG were closer to eliminating Real Madrid than Chelsea and Manchester City. The manager himself said these words during his most recent press conference ahead of PSG's next league match against Montpellier. He also explained that his side's elimination from the French Cup was a tough pill to swallow.

"We were closer to knocking out Madrid than Chelsea and City. Unfortunately we had bad moments which prevented us from going further in the competition. The cup? It was down to penalties and in a match that, despite being the better team, we had a weakened side due to having players away on international duty", he said. 

His star player, Kylian Mbappe, could soon be announcing if he is staying or leaving for Real Madrid at the upcoming best player of the season award ceremony. "I hope he doesn't say anything because the rest of us will be in Qatar. Anyway, when it happens, I hope it's good news", the coach revealed.

After being questioned on the number one spot between Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma, he did not want to touch on the Italian keeper who has previously mentioned that the board will be making a few big decisions ahead of next season. "The club will do what it sees fit, like last summer. At the moment, I am still the manager and I will also take part in that decision", defended the coach.
