Vardy and Hernandez emerge as targets at Old Trafford

Manchester United have enquired about the availability of strikers Jamie Vardy and Javier Hernandez in a bid to strengthen their attack for the second half of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's untimely knee injury has prompted Jose Mourinho's side to look for back up options for Romelu Lukaku. Reportedly keen on signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, Jamie Vardy and Javier Hernandez are also been considered as they look to improve their striking options.

All three targets have the advantage of being able to feature in the Champions League for the Red Devils, but Leicester City's Vardy could prove expensive. The England striker has netted 10 goals for the Foxes this season and the club will not make his departure a simple task.

Out-of-favour West Ham forward Javier Hernandez would be an easier option, with the Mexican still popular with the club's fan base and Jose Mourinho fond of his intense style of play.

After a disappointing spell at the London Stadium, Hernandez would want to play more than a bit-part role as Mourinho's side continue their quest for silverware in the second half of the season.

As for Alexis Sanchez, United have come closer to matching Arsenal's £35million valuation for the Chilean, but Arsene Wenger said on Friday that the striker's future has not been decided "one way or another."
