Valencia open disciplinary proceedings against Mir as Spanish striker returns to training

Rafa Mir, who is awaiting confirmation of when and how he will be reintegrated into the squad after Valencia opened disciplinary proceedings against him, went to the Paterna training complex hours after meeting there with club board, who informed him of the opening of disciplinary proceedings for his night out on Saturday night, which led to his arrest. There, he trained in the gym, on the fringes of his teammates, after a week without training.

The footballer, who said in a statement on Monday that all his 'energies' are focused on the club, has been on provisional release since Wednesday and is being investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of sexual assault with after being denounced by a woman he met in the early hours of Sunday 1st September in a discotheque.

Mir spent two days in custody before testifying in court, where he assured that the relations were consensual, and for that reason Valencia exempted him from having to train on Thursday and Friday and spent two days off during the weekend, like the rest of his teammates.

After studying the situation ‘from the point of view of the sanctioning regime applicable to the field of professional football’, the club announced on Monday ‘disciplinary measures’ and the opening of a disciplinary case for 'understanding that his way of proceeding, in his time off, indisputably affects the professional performance expected of him' and that he has damaged 'the confidence' of the fans in the players.

The club did not want to officially say whether it plans to impose any kind of fine or whether the proceedings will have any effect on the sporting aspect, 5 days after he was provisionally released but with precautionary measures.
