Umtiti is United's 'plan B' if they can't get Varane

Manchester United know that they need another CB alongside Harry Maguire if they are to reach a higher level. For this position they have two targets in La Liga.

Their most sought-after player is Raphael Varane. However, officials at the club know it would be very difficult to pry the player away from Real Madrid, for which reason they are currently assessing a 'plan B'.

This would come in the form of Samuel Umtiti. 'Manchester Evening News' reports that United are monitoring the French CB at Barcelona, who could leave the Camp Nou.

Continuous injury and a drop in performance since the 2018 World Cup have made Barcelona consider selling the player. And here the 'Red Devils' may have a part to play.

If they signed Umtiti, Man United would be doing Barcelona a favour in completing a transfer that they are already planning, whilst at the same time making room for Eric Garcia to join the club on a free transfer.
