UEFA Super Cup could expand to four teams and move outside Europe

The European Super Cup as we know it today could undergo a significant transformation from next season. The tournament, which pits the Champions League winner against the Europa League champion, may be expanded to include two additional teams, bringing the total to four, and could be staged abroad.
This information comes courtesy of 'The Telegraph', which also indicated that the United States and the Middle East are vying to host the new format of the competition. The proposed structure would involve two semi-finals followed by the grand final for the title.
UEFA had previously explored the possibility of revamping the European Super Cup. A document from 2022 concerning the sale of television rights for the 2024-27 cycle mentioned an inaugural Champions tournament involving four clubs. No further details were provided regarding the other two participating teams or their qualification criteria.
The aforementioned outlet suggests that this project was quietly shelved but could be revived during a new round of negotiations over broadcast rights, being conducted by UEFA and Relevent, a US-based company recently engaged to sell audiovisual rights.
This news emerges just days after the RFEF initiated proceedings for Villarreal's match against Barcelona in LaLiga's 17th round to be played in Miami. This announcement has drawn criticism from some fans as well as Real Madrid. This Wednesday, PSG and Tottenham could contest the current Super Cup's final match at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine.
