Thierry Henry set for Villa helm, with John Terry as his assistant

In what is considered as a 'dream lineup' for Villa's board, Thierry Henry is set to accept the offer to become the club's next manager, as they hope to revitalise their fortunes in order to secure promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season. 

 It is also being heavily rumoured that the Frenchman is set to secure the services of former Villa captain John Terry as his number 2 in the dressing room.

The news is set to excite the Villa supporters, who had grown quite tired of the regime of Steve Bruce, who did manage to take the club to the playoff final last season, but had endured a torrid start to the current campaign. 

The new duo of Henry and Terry will be given time to establish their leadership within the team, however they have been given an ultimatum of sorts, to achieve promotion to the top flight, 'sooner rather than later'. 

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry has been without a club since leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season, following the playoff final defeat to Fulham in May, but it is said that he is keen to return to the club in the suggested coaching role alongside ex-Arsenal rival Thierry Henry. 

Although it was also said that in discussions with the Villa board, Terry did voice some concerns about stepping into the shoes of Steve Bruce, who he described as a 'great man', after playing under him last season. 

Also it is not known at this stage whether Terry will play on within the role of assistant manager, or if he is due to announce his retirement as a player. 

Without doubt, Terry's know-how of the current Villa dressing room will be of vital help to first-time manager Henry, a key reason behind the Frenchman's willingness to work with the defender.

 Terry has a great relationship with many of the younger players in the Villa squad, in particular England talent Jack Grealish. 

Villa find themselves sitting in 15th place in the Championship, eight points off the top three, but only six points off the relegation zone; their last outing was a 2-1 loss to Millwall on Sunday.

And so all at the club will be keen to appoint Henry as soon as possible, in the hope of rejuvenating their season, and more importantly hoisting themselves further up the table near the promotion places, away from their rather desperate current whereabouts.
