The matches played on US soil have not caught the attention of local fans. You have to take into account that in the USA, they are not as much into football as in Europe or Asia, for example.
You only have to see the attendance of the matches. The Chivas Guadalajara v Atletico Madrid match only saw 12,000 people go to watch it. The Globe Life Park in Arlington has a capacity of 52,000.
52,000 people went to watch Real Madrid v Arsenal at FedEx Field in Washington. The capacity is 82,000 though. Yet again, not even close to being full.
Just a few hours before the Real Madrid v Atletico match, 10,000 tickets had still not been sold. In Spain, those tickets would have gone in one second.
Another factor which has caused the stadia to be half full is the price of the tickets. To watch an ICC match in the USA costs a minimum of 60 euros. Too expensive for many people and even more so given that it is just a pre-season game.
The fans know that these types of games are for the coaches to try new players and tactics. Therefore, the presence of the star players is not guaranteed and definitely not for 90 minutes anyway.
If we look at everything, it is perfectably understandable why people are not going to the stadium. The ICC is an attractive tournament, but it is unable to fill stadia.
