The game had already finished, but emotions were still running high on the pitch. When the final whistle sounded, the Sevilla goalkeeper made some gestures towards the crowd, which seemed to be either a response to possible criticism or an unelegant way of celebrate the win.
Sergi Darder, who saw it from a distance, ran towards to the goalkeeper to criticise him for his actions. He also gave him a little push although Soriano went down as if he had been shot. As a result, the two sets of players ended up running in and there was a small fight. Even Diego Lopez. ran from the other goalmouth to tell off his teammate for what he had done. The referee, Cuadra Fernández, took the easy option: book both of them.
As both players had been booked previously, they both saw red after the final whistle and will not be able to play next week. The Sevilla goalkeeper saw the card on the pitch. Darder, who was already in the dressing rooms, found out afterwards. The Espanyol later apologised for his actions on social media.
"I would like to apologise for what happened after the game. I'm not going to make excuses, simply admit that I've made a mistake, but I am always going to defend my club and my fans. It's time to all be together, improve and as always, keep looking upwards."
