Russian clubs plea for an extra transfer window

The Russian clubs have applied to the league's organisers for another transfer window.The league has seen an exodus of players due to the war with Ukraine, which has impacted all walks of life since it began a few days ago. The transfer window would only be open for Russian players, not foreigners.

Various Russian sources have reported this. They highlight that the decision remains in the hands of the league's organisers. However, they will have make a decision quickly to avoid the missing players having an impact on any of the league's participants, as this will create unfair advantages and damage the integrity of the competition.

The instability caused by Vladimir Putin's attack on Ukraine is making life difficult for the Russian clubs. A number of sanctions have been imposed on Russian companies and sponsorships. This could play a key role in the clubs' directors' ability to invest in their teams.

With this being said however, should another transfer window be granted, Russian professionals will only be availble for recruitment. This is something that further limits the clubs. In fact, it could be the beginning of the end for the league after it has already been kicked out of FIFA and UEFA competition.
