Russia's Fernandes' family filmed during Croatia crunch match

Defender Mario Fernandes became a momentary hero after his flicked header dragged the Russian team back from the brink in extra-time.

His goal cancelled out the Croatia strike and forced the game to go to penalties, with momentum on the side of the Russians.

Footage has emerged online of the defender's family and friends watching the match on a big screen.

The tension filling the room disappeared as Fernandes scored to make it 2-2. His family went wild as they realised their son had become the saviour for the Russian team.

Despite the penalties not going their way, Russia have outdone themselves, and proved a lot of critics wrong.

Russia went into the competition as the lowest ranked team, but their perseverance and character saw them overcome Spain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, before falling at the quarter-finals.
