A commanding display at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, spearheaded by an impressive showing from Ousman Dembele, saw the La Liga champions continue their march towards an undefeated season. Ernesto Valverde's side took their points tally to 90 with the 5-1 win over Villarreal, and now only Levante and Real Sociedad stand in their way on the path to becoming 'invincibles'.
Down in Sevilla, the other Spanish giant, Real Madrid, had differing fortunes. Zinedine Zidane's side took a 3-2 beating, in part due to wholesale changes made by the French coach, and this means they remain on 72 points. This opens up a remarkable 18 point gap between the two rivals, something that has only ever happened once before.
This 18 point disparity equals the record set back in 2012/13, by Tito Vilanova's team. The Catalan side ended the campaign on an incredible 100 points, and at one moment held an 18 point lead over Real, however this was eventually cut back to 15.
This season, the distance has increased. 19 points separated the two teams at one point, however this was when Real had a game in hand. Now, with equal footing in terms of games played, Barca's superiority has equalled Tito's record...and with two games left to play, it could even be broken.
