PSG 1-2 Real Madrid: Player Ratings

PSG:
Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola - 7
Made a fine low save to deny Sergio Ramos in the first half as well as a solid save to keep out a Karim Benzema strike but could not do anything about either goal.
Defender: Dani Alves - 6
Gave the ball away for Ronaldo's opener and struggled to provide the same outlet he did at the Bernabeu.
Defender: Thiago Silva - 7
Made some important interceptions in the first half and his header back across goal led to Cavani's equaliser.
Defender: Marquinhos - 6
Unfortunate to see Casemiro's goal defelct in off him.
Defender: Yuri Berchiche - 6
Failed to provide the sort of quality delivery from deep that PSG fans have come to expect from him.
Midfielder: Adrien Rabiot - 6
Looked tidy enough at times but a few sloppy passes saw promising moves end before they really got chance to get going.
Midfielder: Thiago Motta - 6
Played to provide a shield in front of the back four but was outshone by opposite nuumber Casemiro before being withdrawn as PSG looked for a more explansive engine room.
Midfielder: Marco Verratti - 5
Struggled to really make his mark on the tie before being shown a second yellow card for a show of dissent in the second half.
Forward: Angel Di Maria - 6
Looked busy and tidy in the first half but one attempted through ball to Berchiche showed that he wasn't on the same wavelength as his team-mates.
Forward: Edinson Cavani -6
Touched the ball just nine times in the first half as he struggled to get involved, but did managed to bundle what proved to be just a consolation in the tie after the break.
Forward: Kylian Mbappe - 6
Should have squared the ball to Cavani just before half-time but selfishly opted to go himself. Looked to stretch the play with intelligent runs but never really looke dlike getting on the scoresheet.
Real Madrid:
Goalkeeper: Keylor Navas - 7
Made a couple of sharp saves just before half-time as PSG threatened to build up a head of steam and looked assured throughout.
Defender: Dani Carvajal - 7
Strong in the tackle down the right, very little got past the former Bayer Leverkusen man.
Defender: Sergio Ramos - 7
Went close in the first half with a first-time effort and generally kept Cavani quiet for long spells.
Defender: Raphael Varane - 7
Showed good pace in the second half to avoid being left trailing in Mbappe's wake and generally did very little wrong.
Defender: Marcelo - 6
Swung in a couple of dangerous crosses but otherwise faily untested on his return from injury.
Midfielder: Casemiro - 8
Stepped up in the absences of Kroos and Modric, marshalling the midfield and even popping up with an unlikely goal to seal victory on the night. Misplaced just one pass all game as well as making 11 ball recoveries.
Midfielder: Mateo Kovacic - 6
Plugged away against PSG's greater number in the middle of the park. His physical presence was hampered by a first-half booking.
Midfielder: Marco Asensio - 8
Only misplaced one pass in the first half as he kept things simple and constantly offered the visitors an outlet. Played a key role in the first goal as he mugged Alves and raced forward and generally pinned the Brazilian back for large spells. Struck the post late on, with a goal the only thing missing from his performance.
Forward: Lucas Vazquez - 7
Fizzed around throughout, always looking to run his man and get dangeoruas balls into the box. Assisted Ronaldo's opener and went inches away from getting on the scoresheet himself.
Forward: Cristiano Ronaldo - 7
The man for the big stage. Starved of service at times but scored the all important away goal to put the game beyond PSG.
Forward: Karim Benzema - 5
Missed an excellent chance in each half as he marked his 100th Champions League appearance with a disappointing display.
