Talking on 'BT Sport,' Michael Owen said referee Gianluca Rocchi 'bottled it' by not brandishing a second yellow for the dive.
"A couple of players were lucky to stay on the pitch. Neymar, a blatant dive, the referee spotted it and didn’t have the courage to send him off," Owen said.
Paul Clement agreed with his co-pundit, saying "to the letter of the law, that’s a second yellow."
This incident comes just days after UEFA's chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina called for referees to be stricter in the 'beautiful game.'
Had Neymar been sent off, he would have been unavailable for selection for the return fixture in three week's time. PSG will be hoping for a star performance from their world-record signing as they look to pull off a historic comeback at the Parc des Princes.
