FC Barcelona have announced the sacking of Ernesto Valverde as their coach. He will leave the club after winning two La Liga trophies, One Copa del Rey and one SuperCup in two and a half seasons. Barca have not sacked a coach midway through the season since 2003. He will be replaced by Quique Setién from Cantabria, formerly of UD Las Palmas or Real Betis, among others.
Barcelona released an official statement on their social media, after managing to agree settlement terms with Valverde's agent. The statement is short, but filled with gratitude.

Setien will take his place, he is an admired coach who has brought so many achievements and footballing abundance to Barcelona. The position game, the attacking football, the possession... Setien has always advocated for importing this style wherever he has worked, not always with success or consensus. An avowed admirer of Johan Cruyff, his curriculum vitae is not that of an elite coach. Racing de Santander, Polideportivo Ejido, Equatorial Guinea National Team, CD Logroñés, CD Lugo, UD Las Palmas and Real Betis Balompie are the teams he has coached.
The new coach has signed a deal until 2022. Quique Setién is one of the most experienced coaches in Spanish Football and brings attractive football to any team he works. Let's see how he gets on now he can get down to work!
