OFFICIAL: The 2030 World Cup will be held in 6 different countries

The 2030 World Cup will indeed be held in South America, 16 years after the last World Cup on the continent, in Brazil in 2014. But Europe and Africa will have their share of the cake, FIFA has just announced.

Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, who submitted a joint bid to organise the world's greatest football competition, will host their countries' first matches at the 2030 World Cup.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chiqui Tapia, President of the Argentine Football Association, announced that "our country will be proud to host Argentina's first match at the 2030 World Cup".

In other words, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay will start the competition on home soil, as Italy, England, Germany and Denmark did at Euro 2021.

What about the rest of the competition? According to several Spanish media reports, the rest of the matches will be split between three other countries: Morocco will host 4 or 5 matches, Portugal 3 matches and Spain 10 matches, including the final.

For the moment, FIFA has not announced its choice for the organisation of the centenary World Cup, 100 years after the first World Cup in history.
