Months ago, during the January transfer window, news broke of Arsenal's purchase of Matt Turner, New England Revolution goalkeeper. Now, he has finally arrived at the club, ready for the 2022/23 Premier League season. The keeper has become one of the best in the USA and will now test himself in the best league in the world.
Although The Gunners have not released official figures regarding the deal, it is reported that they paid an initial 4.5 million pounds for him. They have also failed to state how long his contract with them will last however, sources such as 'Sky Sports' have reported that he will be at the club until 2026.
"The 28-year-old USA international has made 18 appearances for his country since making his international debut in January 2021. He started all six matches on the way to the United States winning the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and has also been an integral part of the squad which has won qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar", reads Arsenal's official announcement of the signing.
At first, Turner's role will be to act as a back-up for current Gunners number 1, Aaron Ramsdale. Because of this, Bernd Leno, Arsenal's other goalkeeper, could be sold. The Gunners still have the rest of the transfer market ahead of them and so the North London club have time on their side to make a Leno deal happen.
