Real Madrid have announced that they have re-signed striker Mariano from Lyon on a five year deal.

This move was long-rumoured tobe on the cards, and the Spanish giants confirmed that they had brought the striker back to the club just a year since he left.

Mariano joined the Real Madrid youth setup when he was 18, and worked his way through the ranks to the first team, but couldn't hold his place down.

Now, with the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the player proving himself at Lyon by scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season, 'Los Blancos' have decided to activate his buy-back clause.

They had to fight off Spanish rivals Sevilla who had also approached Lyon, but had the first chance to sign the player because of the clause, and will pay a reported £33 million for his services.

In a statement on the club's wesbite, Real Madrid revealed that he will be presented as a Madrid player on Thursday 31st August at the Bernabeu.
