It is now official. Brighton have confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Getafe, with a contract which will keep him at the English club until June 2026. The Seagulls have paid his 18 million euro buyout clause.
The 23 year-old, who can play as left back or midfielder, is the English side's third signing of the summer after Enock Mwepu and Kjell Scherpen.
Cucurella was an Espanyol youth player for a time before moving across the city to join Barcelona in 2012. He played for their B team and made his first team debut in a Copa del Rey clash in October 2017.
After being at Eibar, Cucurella was loaned to Getafe for the 2019-20 season where he stayed permanently. He has played 85 times for the Madrid based side and scored four goals.
He has also represented Spain from U16 level up to senior level. He made his debut under Luis Enrique in a 4-0 win over Lithuania in June and he represented Spain at the Olympics this summer in Tokyo.
It is a very big loss for Getafe on transfer deadline day. His departure had been coming as he had been negotiating with Brighton for weeks and now the Premier League side have agreed to pay his buyout clause. Yet another Spaniard makes the move to England.
