Messi's Anfield tirade: "Rome was our fault, don't let the same thing happen again"

The documentary series 'Matchday' shows some of Barcelona's toughest moments last season from the inside. One of its central points is the club's defeat at Anfield against Liverpool in the semifinals of the Champions League. Reactions from inside as well as from outside, like Shakira's seeing the 3-0 with her children, are captured for the docuseries-.
The episode shows how Leo Messi made a speech before the second leg of the Champions semifinal. The Argentine based his speech on not repeating the previous year's disaster in Rome, but his words ended up becoming a premonition.
"Come on, people, let's take a step. The opportunity must not be wasted. Come on, we're there. We're going to come out strong. Let's remember: Rome was our fault. No one else's. Don't let the same thing happen. That was our fault and nobody else's," said the Argentinian to his team-mates.
The talk was completed by Luis Suarez, who knew Anfield well, where he played for three and a half years. "You have to be prepared to suffer. We're going to suffer. We're going to have a hard time," added the Uruguayan.
Barcelona had a 3-0 lead in that game and ended up losing 4-0. It was a repeat of what happened a year earlier in Rome, where, that time in the quarter-finals, Valverde's men wasted a 4-1 win at home after losing 3-0 away.
