Mendes backtracks: Semedo will stay

He had been linked to swap deals and bargaining chips for Barcelona's other transfers this summer, because Mendes was convinced he could get a good price for him, but for whatever reason, it seems that Nélson Semedo is going to keep his place.
As 'Mundo Deportivo' claims, Barcelona now want to extend his contract. It expires in 2022 and they still trust the Portuguese wingback. Proof of it is that this course has played 38 matches, 31 as a regular player.
But Jorge Mendes insisted. He had good offers for his client, and renewal would scare off his potential clients. There was talk that he would be part of a hypothetical deal with City for Cancelo, or a transfer for Pjanic or Lautaro.
The first fell into oblivion, the second ended with the departure of Arthur because Juve did not contemplate another option, and the third is still in the air, and it seems that the chosen would be Junior Firpo and not Nélson Semedo.
It seems that the always accurate Jorge Mendes was too optimistic on this occasion. No one seems willing to pay for his clause, the lowest in the squad (100 million), and neither does he convince as a bargaining chip.
So, the path of renewal seems the logical choice for Semedo at this time. The source says that negotiations are going well and that an imminent outcome is expected.
He would extend his contract until 2025, improve his emoluments and, logically, increase his termination clause. Semedo arrived in Barcelona in 2017, from Benfica, in exchange for 36 million euros.
