Mbappe risks ban in Copa del Rey final after red card at Alaves

Real Madrid were handed a big blow just minutes after Eduardo Camavinga had given them the lead at Alaves, as Kylian Mbappe was sent off with seven minutes to go until the half-time whistle at the Mendizorroza.
The Frenchman was shown a yellow card for his horror challenge on Antonio Blanco, catching the defender's leg with a dangerous tackle, but the referee upgraded it to red following VAR intervention. It was Mbappe's first sending-off with the 'Los Blancos' outfit, but it could be a costly one.
Given the recklessness of the challenge, the 26-year-old's suspension could be increased from the regular one-match ban to potentially three, meaning he would miss Real Madrid's fixtures against Athletic Club, Getafe, and most importantly, the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
Mbappe has received three other red cards throughout his professional career - all whilst playing for PSG: against Rennes in 2018 in the semi-finals of the French Cup, against Nimes in 2018 in Ligue 1, and another one against Rennes in 2019 in the French top flight.
The Real Madrid No. 9 was not the only one to be shown a red card in Vitoria-Gasteiz, as Manu Sanchez was sent off for Deportivo Alaves in the 70th minute after bringing down Vinicius Junior with a high boot.
