Man Utd boss Ten Hag on Martial's return: "He is on his way back"

Manchester United have already set their sights on the Premier League game against Southampton on Sunday after thrashing Betis 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Ten Hag appeared before the media in the press room and spoke about Martial's possible return and also about Weghorst's considerable amount of playing time since the striker's arrival at Old Trafford.

Asked if they were being cautious about the Frenchman's return after the relapses he has had this season, the coach replied: "Yeah, but I think, all the time, we had a good plan and until now it [didn’t] always [work well]. But he is on his way back, he is back in training, but we will be cautious, yeah."

Anthony Martial has not played since the start of February, when he returned from one injury before suffering a setback in his hip. 

On the importance of Weghorst in the starting eleven and in his plans the former Ajax coach said: "He is physically capable to play a lot of games. He is a very fit player, and he recovers very well. Did I expect [it]? I expected that he will play a lot but obviously we have an injury with Anthony Martial, so it's obvious that's the main reason why he's playing every game from the start to almost finish. [Against] Barcelona I think I took him off, but many other games he played, and I think he's doing well as the striker or as the no.10 in the midfield, he's also bringing good performance.
