The 'Red Devils' will reportedly appoint their 'first ever director of football' in an effort to overhaul their transfer policy.
This would result in a more streamlined recruitment process and comes after Mourinho has expressed his desire to be referred to as a 'head coach' rather than a 'manager'.
Mourinho remarked: "I had my plans for many months and I find myself with the market closed in a situation I did not think I would be in. I think football is changing and managers should be called head coaches."
Vice-chairman Ed Woodward will still be involved in the club's transfer negotiations but would take on a different role.
The director of football position is one that seems to have proved successful for city rivals Manchester City, as Txiki Begiristain has managed to bring top talent to the club, with Riyad Mahrez the most recent big-money addition.
