Makkelie will referee the Villarreal-Liverpool game

Dutchman Danny Makkelie has been appointed to referee Tuesday's Villarreal-Liverpool Champions League semi-final second leg.
Makkelie, a police officer born 39 years ago in Willemstad (Netherlands Antilles), will be assisted on the sidelines by his compatriots Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries. The fourth official will be Serdar Gozubuyuk and Pol van Boekel and Dennis Higler will officiate in the VAR.
Makkelie's last match in the Champions League was the second leg of the last-16 tie between Real Madrid and PSG at the Bernabeu in which the Spanish side won 3-1.
This season, he has been in charge of Liverpool, in the group stage, in the visit to AC Milan on 19 December, with a 2-1 English victory.
