Humiliated 4-1 by Japan in Wolfsburg on Saturday evening, Germany conceded their fourth defeat in five matches. A downward spiral that is making coach Hansi Flick even more under fire.
"We're preparing the team in the right way against our opponents. We're going to continue to do that. We're convinced of what we're doing. That's why it's continuing for me too," Flick assured the press conference after the match.
But it would appear that the former Bayern Munich coach is not really counting on the support of his players. Antonio Rudiger's attitude towards Japan's third goal, for example, seems to prove a lack of commitment within the squad.
When Kubo launched a counter-attack from Japan, it took the Real Madrid defender 2 seconds to start running to catch up with the Real Sociedad striker.
Two seconds too long, as Kubo calmly slotted into the area to set up Asano, who only had to push the ball into the net. A goal for which Rudiger can easily be blamed, but which could cost Flick dearly.
