    FT: Brighton 1-3 Liverpool. Liverpool raced into an early lead as Salah and Henderson struck inside the first eight minutes after the Reds' press had forced high turnovers. Brighton grew into the game and Trossard pulled one back with a superb strike, but Salah nodded home a corner in the second half to put the game to bed. It finishes 3-1 to Liverpool!

    Liverpool make a double change. Off goes the impressive Keita and the less magnificent Oxlade-Chamberlain. On come Fabinho and Mane, and the latter almost immediately goes in the book for flinging an arm in Lamptey’s face.

    HT: Brighton 1-2 Liverpool. Liverpool started the game with intensity and sharpness but appeared to take their foot off the gas and lose focus as the half wore on. Meanwhile, Brighton grew in confidence and deserved their goal. However, Klopp is not likely to be pleased with his players and Potter should expect a renewed intensity from the champions in the second half.

    Stunning! Lamptey tears down the right, sent clear by a reverse ball from Gross. Lamptey curls low towards Trossard, on the penalty spot. Trossard meets the cross so sweetly, sweeping powerfully into the bottom right, leaving Alisson no chance! That had been coming, and Brighton deserve their goal.

    Williams picks up the first yellow card of the game as he barges Lamptey over. He's struggled to deal with the runs of the Brighton right-back in behind him.

    CLOSE! Salah cuts inside from the right in trademark fashion and bends a shot around a couple of defenders with his left foot. He's aiming for the far corner, but it's just the wrong side of the post! Ryan was left stranded!

    Maupay swings one in from the left. Williams is forced to head behind for a corner, under pressure from Gross. The corner’s played out to Stephens, who whips a shot wide right from the edge of the box. That had Alisson scrambling, though I think he had it covered.

    Oxlade-Chamberlain runs slap-bang into Webster and takes an accidental one in the eye from his opposite number 15. He has to do quite a lot of hard blinking before he’s good to go again.

    A long ball down the right surprises the Liverpool back line. Gross skedaddles into plenty of space and rolls across for Trossard, who slams home. But the flag had gone up for offside and Liverpool had, by then, long stopped.

    Williams is buzzing around everywhere, very much enjoying his full debut. Now he dances down the left, but after performing a Steve Nicol shuffle, can’t find Firmino or Salah in the middle with his dinked cross.

    Brighton nearly grab a goal back, Gross and Maupay working some space down the inside-left channel. Wijnaldum half-intercepts in the box, but only tees up Trossard, who shoots from 12 yards. Williams slides in brilliantly to block and deflect the effort over the bar.

    Henderson is down after Maupay caught him on the top of the ankle with his studs, but no further punishment appears to be forthcoming and the Liverpool skipper is back on his feet and will try to run off the injury.

    SAVE! Some neat combination play on the edge of the box sees Salah played into the area down the right by Keita, but the angle closes on him and his right-footed effort is into Ryan's midriff and the goalkeeper holds on.

    Brighton gift Liverpool another. Webster strides upfield but is swarmed by Henderson and Firmino. Liverpool sweep forward. Henderson lashes into the top left from 25 yards. What a start by the champions! On the touchline, Graham Potter looks slightly stunned.

    GOAAAAAALLLLL!!! Brighton play out from the back ... and straight into trouble. Ryan passes to Propper, who is immediately stripped by Keita. Fine pressing. Keita slips the ball to Salah on his right; Salah opens his body and calmly slots the ball into the bottom left. Easy as that.

    Alexander-Arnold swings one in from the right. Salah can’t win a header, but the ball breaks to Firmino, whose shot is deflected wide left. Nothing comes from the resulting corner
