"Lewy doesn't surprise me, I know him well, but Benzema will win the Ballon d'Or"

Footballer David Alaba was recently voted Austrian Sportsman of the Year. His great season as a 'Merengue' has earned him the award for the third time in his sporting career.

The Madrid player is happy at the Bernabeu. In an interview with 'Real Total', he took the opportunity to review his team's current sporting situation. 

He spoke about the 'Clasico' against Barcelona. "It will undoubtedly be a big game," warned the defender. And Lewandowski, his former Bayern team-mate, will be up against him. "I'm not surprised by what he has done. I know him very well from my time in Munich. What he is doing here I experienced with him for years in Germany. He is one of the best strikers in the world, he is proving that," he said. 

However, Alaba is clear that he is not going to win the Ballon d'Or. He said no one should wonder who the award will go to this time. "That question shouldn't even come up. If you look at Benzema's last season, what he did... it's unbelievable. I'm grateful to have been able to be by his side, to be part of his work and to see him every day," he defended the Frenchman.

Alaba also had some nice words for Tchoaumeni: "We have players who can make a difference and there is great quality in some of them. We have a player not only with potential, but also with the quality he brought with him from day one. And that wasn't easy after Casemiro left".

Finally, he said that he prefers to play at centre-back rather than at full-back. "I feel more comfortable and I think the coach also sees me more in that position. It's no secret that I can play on the flanks and I'll do it if I have to help, of course.
