Kalvin Phillips addresses future at Man City

In a squad as strong as Man City's, it's obvious that not everyone can get a leading role. For Kalvin Phillips, that's meant a season with just two Premier League starts for his team, after a £42 million move from Leeds last summer.
Speaking after he scored his first international goal against North Macedonia, the 27-year-old did not seem deterred however, and declared he had no plans to leave the squad just yet.
"My intention is to stay at City. We have just won the Treble, so there is no reason for me to leave. If I am not playing I will obviously have to think about it", he stated, "But I cannot give it 12 months and say 'I am not playing so I am going to leave'. As you have seen with many players at City, it can take quite a while to cement yourself into the team".
He took courage from his teammates about starting a career at City: "I spoke to quite a few of the players about it. Nathan Ake being one. Jack (Grealish). They all said the same, 'the first 12 months were the hardest of their City careers'”.
Despite playing less than 600 minutes for his club, Phillips is in his fourth season representing England internationally, and started every game that England played in Euro 2020, being named England's 2020-21 Men's Player of the Year.
