The week started well for Manchester United, but everything turned sour at the Camp Nou and ended the worst possible way in the Premier League, where Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer's men suffered a humiliating defeat.
The red devils were thrashed 4 - 0 by Everton, a painful result, to the point that the Norwegian manager and ex Manchester United player felt that the need to apologise to fans because of his team's poor performance.
Gary Neville, ex Manchester United player and teamate of Solskjaer, had some harsh comments about the current Manchester United squad and their very poor performance.
"Ole had to apologise to the fans. "I’ve often said that if clubs have weeds in the garden, you’ve got to get rid of them. But there is weeds rotting that football club, and it’s attacking the foundations of the house that needs dealing with properly" he explained in Sky Sports.
And Neville continued with a harsh comparison with the other club in the city, Guardiola's Manchester City: "I watched Manchester City on Saturday, who United are trying to match. Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne; better players that work twice as hard.".
The former player did not set out to give names, but said that everyone knows who he refers to in his criticisms, which were especially harsh after a game he categorized as "rancid".
"I don't need to name names, everybody knows who they are. They're in the newspapers and on social media, and if they don't work and don't have the attitude to wear that shirt they'll have to leave. I don't mind losing games, conceding goals or giving away balls. I was one of the best at that, in fact, but you do not drop below the standard and work ethic that is expected at that club; they're falling below it"stated Neville, who praised both Mourinho and Solskjaer's job as managers of the club.
"Jose Mourinho, the fans stuck with him, but they wanted him out in the end. They're not going to turn on Ole. Those players now, their heads are on the line. Fans don't want Ole to leave, but they are realising that there's players who are as disappoiting for Solskjaer as they were for Mourinho" the previous Valencia manager concluded.
