'If Barcelona want to join the Premier League it makes it even more difficult to win the title'

Barcelona will have to join the back of the queue. That is what Arsene Wenger has said after Catalonia's sports minister Gerard Figueras revealed Barcelona would be free to join a new league should the region secede from Spain.

'We have enough clubs here. 20 and they want to go up to 24. Before we have to welcome the Scottish clubs before we go to the Spanish ones', the Gunners boss said. 

The Frenchman believes it is an issue that will unfold in the years to come. 'But I didn't think they are as far as that. It's interesting because it's a development that will have an influence on the sporting side', Wenger said. 'Barcelona is a highly political club and it's interesting to see how they respond'.

The Arsenal manager also spoke about the challenges his own side would face if the La Liga club were added to English football. 'If Barcelona want to join the Premier League it makes it even more difficult to win the title', Wenger joked.
