Villarreal managed to beat Real Madrid in their first league game of 2023. The Yellow Submarine went ahead, but Benzema drew the tie level from the penalty spot. Later on, there was another penalty, but for the home side, which gave the home side the 2-1 lead.
After the game, experienced defender and Villarreal captain Raul Albiol gave his view on the penalties which were given in the game: "For me, neither are penalties. Foyth was running and Alaba was supporting himself up with his arm".
"They're giving very dubious penalties, but it's the ref's decision. You've got to get on with it" he explained to 'Movistar'. "To beat Madrid you've got to have a good day and give it everything. I'm happy for getting the three points, it's always important to know what level you're at".
"We didn't know if were going to be able to keep it up with it for the whole game, but we started with high intensity. We prepared for the game well and we got our reward. The team's still growing and we wanted to win at home. It's important to get points on the board at home", he added.
Finally, he spoke about Quique Setien: "You need to give time to every change. We went through a tough patch because the manager who started the season left. The World Cup break came at a good time to work on the new coach's ideas".
