Gregory Van der Wiel discussed for 'Kick't Net' his PSG spell, which lasted for four years.
The former left-back remembers his last season at Paris: "I wasn't happy there because I didn't play as much as I wanted to and I lost my confidence. There were also some incidents in my last season that made want to leave. For example, Serge Aurier talked about the manager (Laurent Blanc) and about me two or three days before the Champions League game against Chelsea. He got suspended and people were saying I was going to start, but I didn't".
"The coach played Marquinhos instead of me, when he is a center-back. Those were though times, when I was feeling bad, and asking to myself 'am I not good enough to start as a right-back over a center-back?'. Incidents like that is what made me want to leave the club", said the former Ajax, Fenerbahce, Cagliari and Toronto player.
“I didn’t really choose Paris. I missed my Euro 2012. And I didn’t have as many options as before. Unfortunately, at that point, I was reluctantly forced to change agents. For my career, I had to do it. I joined Mino Raiola. He already had some players at PSG, like Zlatan, so the connection was easy, and I was able to go there, but it wasn't a choice”, Van der Wiel said.
