"I’m not making a point" - Amorim on leaving Rashford on bench

Manchester United are failing to turn their fortunes around despite the hopeful arrival of Ruben Amorim to lead the Mancunian side. In fact, the Red Devils find themselves just 7 points above the relegation zone after suffering four consecutive defeats. 

The Portuguese coach has been heavily criticised for failing to implement the eye-catching style of play he had at Sporting Lisbon in his new team, in addition to not having Marcus Rashford in recent matches. 

In fact, Rashford was left out of the squad for the losses to Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and the win over Manchester City. The England winger was recalled for the match against Newcastle but was left on the bench unused. 

Amorim was asked after the defeat against the Magpies why he decided not to use Rashford to try to come back, to which the Portuguese replied that he thinks about the team and not just the player. "I think about the team. You think a lot about Marcus. I think about the team. When I’m there I’m not making a point. I just want to win the game," he told reporters.

"And you can feel it – I’m talking about the idea and the fight for relegation. Do I want to make a point during a game? No, I just want to win the game," he conluded.
