Matthijs de Ligt's first season at Juventus had not been as expected, but the former Ajax man says he feels very happy in Turin in comments to 'The Athletic'.
"For a defender, it's always a great challenge to put myself to the test as a foreigner in the Italian league, but I love challenges. I thought this was the best place for me and I've never regretted choosing Juventus. I'm very happy to be here," the 21 year-old Dutch central defender said.
After being out with a shoulder injury at the beginning of the campaign, De Ligt has full recovered and has even become a nailed on starter in Andrea Pirlo's side.
"I want to be the best player possible, not a copy of another person"
The Juventus player also spoke about his teammates Bonucci and Chiellini, who he learns from every day: "I'm very lucky to play with the same players I'd watch on television if I were a young defender who has to learn how to play this role."
And he added: "Bonucci is really good when it comes to preparing for games and so I talk to him a lot and ask him what he does. The same thing goes for Chiellini, very good at scoring, I try and learn from him as well. I also play with Van Dijk for the national team. That said, in the end I think it's important to form your own style of play and not start copying someone else. It's just a matter of trying to improve constantly."
