Dortmund had not had much luck in the first half, but managed to take the lead through a scrappy goal 10 minutes before the break.
The away side came back in the second half and made the most of defensive mistake from the Dortmund defence, as a cross from the right was not cleared and Sebastien Haller was on hand to hook the ball home.
While the visitors looked to have got back in to it, it took just four minutes for the Signal Iduna Park faithful to see their side's lead restored.
English winger Jadon Sancho announced his arrival on the pitch with an excellent run down the right wing, before floating the ball perfectly in to the path of Marius Wolf to slot home to give Dortmund some breathing room.
