Gvardiol explains why he let Alvarez take penalty

Manchester City swept to the top of the Premier League as Josko Gvardiol's double inspired a vital 4-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday. The Croatian defender took two deft touches as he glided through the Fulham defence before planting a composed low finish past Bernd Leno for his fourth goal in his last seven appearances.

"Another great performance not just from me but from the team as well. It was very difficult, but today we showed again who we are and what we are ready for. Another two goals, I’m happy and a clean sheet," Gvardiol told his current club's press on Saturday.

Alvarez put the seal on a clinical performance from the relentless champions, converting a stoppage-time penalty after Diop chopped him down.

"We were discussing about me taking the penalty I said I’d like to take it, but we know who is the taker and he takes. In the end it was Julian and I’m happy for him to score a goal," the Croatian continued.

"No [I’m not doing anything different to score goals], I just think its normal in sports. Currently I’m in good form and the end of the season is coming. Three more finals so we need to be ready," he concluded.
