Pep Guardiola is considered by some to be one of the best coaches in the world. He made his name as Barcelona coach, moved on to Bayern and then took the reins at City, where he has been since 2016.
Samir Nasri knows just how demanding Guardiola can be, having been under his orders briefly, just before moving to Sevilla in 2016. "Guardiola is arrogant, in a right way," said the former French player.
The former playmaker spoke to 'L'Equipe' about the personality of the City boss. "He knows he is the best coach and he makes it clear to you. Pep knows what he brings to the club and he knows that, when he arrived at City, he had absolute freedom. So, for him, it's quite easy to do his thing. Then he is a very open and honest person," he said.
He explained that their relationship did not start off in the best possible way, but gradually he managed to "change his mind". "He got angry with me many times. He told me that I was a waste of a player, that I shouldn't be playing there but at Barcelona," he recalled.
Samir Nasri then decided to swap City for Sevilla and, for Guardiola, he made a mistake with that decision: "He wanted me to stay and play there, but I told him he couldn't guarantee me a starting place and I needed playing time. He told me that he thought I was wrong, but that in any case I would have two years left on my contract".
He explained that he weighed more than Guardiola allowed. "When I arrived, he told me my weight should be 76 kilos. I hadn't weighed that since I played in Marseille, because in the Premier League there is always a programme to get more muscle. He wants slim players. I came in four kilos heavier than I normally should have been. With Guardiola, if you are 2.5 kilos over, you can't train with the group. So I trained on my own", he recalled.
