Guardiola calls for courage as Man City seek Champions League comeback

Pep Guardiola has called for his Manchester City players to show "incredible courage" as they attempt to overturn a 3-2 deficit against Real Madrid in their Champions League play-off tie.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the match, Guardiola stressed the importance of staying true to their style of play, stating, "Play with courage. Be yourself. I learnt that as a young player when we didn't get results". 

The City boss provided a positive update on the fitness of key players Erling Haaland, Nathan Ake, Jack Grealish, and Ruben Dias, confirming their inclusion in the travelling squad. Guardiola highlighted the need for consistency, particularly regarding Grealish's playing time, as the team enters the crucial final months of the season.

Addressing concerns about the team's solidity, Guardiola defended City's record in England and expressed confidence in finding solutions, saying, "I have been a coach 13/14 years and I have always found a way to make things work". 

The Catalan manager acknowledged the challenge ahead but remained optimistic about City's chances of turning the tie around. With the match kicking off at 21:00 CET on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Santiago Bernabeu, Guardiola and his team are focused on adjusting their approach from the first leg to secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
