The attacking midfielder has spent several months out of the game after being diagnosed with a metabolic disorder and has been going through the stages of rehabilitation ever since.
Gotze was finally able to get back out onto the pitch in a pre-season win against Urawa Reds and has described the occasion as 'a superb moment'.
'I have been in rehab for five months, so I could not train with the team and have not been with the team the last months.'
'So this just makes it more beautiful for me to be with the team again and training with them from July onwards.'
'I will leave the past behind me and look ahead to the new season, which is important for me and for all players. We are looking forward to it,' he added.
The Germany international is keen to get his career back on track working under new manager Peter Bosz and played a part in Dortmund's emphatic win over Milan in the International Champions Cup today.
