Eddie Howe lays out Newcastle transfer plans

As Newcastle pay a visit to Brentford on matchday 13 of the Premier League, Eddie Howe sat down for a press conference earlier on Friday to discuss the club's future moves on the transfer market. The Englishman highlighted the importance of player trading should the club decide to buy big. 

“What I’ll say on that is that trading is essential, both in and out, to the model of PSR. I think the days when teams don’t sell players unless your revenue streams are so big, are gone," Howe said. “It doesn't mean we can't hopefully make big signings and players for the here and now who are ready to play, but maybe not all under that category at the same time. Our revenue streams aren’t where we want them to be ultimately, we’re trying to grow them. So I think trading in and out is going to be essential".

According to 'the Mirror', the Magpies could make around £200m from the sales of Bruno Guimaraes (£80m) and Alexander Isak (£120m) alone, with both players reportedly attracting heavy interest from European giants. Nonetheless, Howe hopes the club are "forced" to make any sales. "Hopefully, it’s not players that we’re forced to sell. Hopefully, it’s in a more stable setting, but you can’t guarantee anything. We will try and do our best. There’ll be a lot of twists and turns, but the want from everyone internally is to try and improve the squad. If we can do it, we will. If we can’t, we won’t," he added.

The Newcastle boss also said that the club will not only be focused on big-money signings, citing Osula as an example of a player brought in for the long-term future. "Signings like Will Osula, which was very much with a view to potential in the future, a player we like, will be a different kind of signing to Alex, who was brought in for the here and now to hit the ground running straight away. We're going to have to be smart and that's the key thing," he concluded.
