Diogo Jota recalls Atleti: "Leaving was the best option for my career"

Diogo Jota is one of the men of the moment at Liverpool. He has scored five goals this season and is the first player to score in his first four matches at Anfield. A record that speaks to how he has hit the ground running with the team.
The striker arrived in the summer from Wolves in exchange for 43 million euros. His impact in the Premier League has reached Spain and his past at Atlético Madrid is controversial because the 'colchoneros' paid eight million for him and he never made his debut.
'The Athletic' interviewed Diogo Jota this week and he spoke about his time at Wanda Metropolitano: "I don't regret going to Atletico. They were in the Champions League final the season before I arrived. The opportunity to be there and spend the whole preseason meant a lot to me and I learned a lot," said the Portuguese.
"I hoped it would be better, but I don't regret it. In the end, at that time, leaving was the best option for my career. Each experience allows you to develop and grow. Even if it doesn't go as you expected, you can learn everything in life and gain experience," he added about his time at Atlético.
He is now under the command of a Jürgen Klopp whom he praises: "He is a fantastic coach who takes good care of me. When I first arrived, we had a meeting and he explained to me how the team works. Then it's up to the player to learn quickly and show the coach that you can be important.
And also, he tells how delighted he is with the dressing room. "Liverpool have a great team and Jordan Henderson has been very important. He wrote to me as he knew I was going to sign for the club and helped me a lot," he said of the captain, and spoke of the Brazilian clan and Adrian San Miguel: "I speak Portuguese with them and they helped me a lot. With Adrian too, with whom I speak in Spanish. We have a great team and it is the base of the success".
