Depay opens up about Man Utd failure

A lot was expected of the Dutch winger when he arrived at the 'Red Devils', but he never managed to make his mark at the club.

Just 19 months after he arrived, Jose Mourinho gave him the chance to move away to the club and try to kick-start his career at Lyon.

While his time at the French club has been an undoubted success, the former PSV man admitted that his time in the Premier League was a disappointment.

"Everybody knows the story of me and Manchester United was not successful," Depay said.

"Everybody can see that and I can feel it myself. I can look back and say I didn't want it to go like that - nobody did - but things happened.

"After one season, I couldn't find myself in the team. I was still young, didn't get a lot of opportunities, but I must say that the first season I didn't put the quality on the table that I thought."

He will get his chance to prove his worth in Manchester again, when his Lyon side take on Man City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
