De Jong bids Ajax farewell with a video

"I'm very proud to have been able to play for this fantastic club. Thanks Ajax," De Jong wrote in his official social media accounts.
The video commemorates important moments in De Jong's career, such as the signing of his first contract in August 2015, his debut at the Johan Cruyff Arena, moments from the Champions League match against Real Madrid and the celebration of Ajax's double this season.
"Here I have enjoyed how people think about football and how it should be played. The quality of the staff and the players I was allowed to play and work with was incredible. I was happy to come to the club everyday, so I want to thank everyone who does something for Ajax," de Jong said in the text accompanying the audio-visual.
"Fans, you were great! The fantastic atmosphere of the European nights (of the Champions League) is something I won't easily forget," added the 22-year-old.
De Jong received the affection of Ajax fans two weeks ago when the club celebrated the Dutch Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup in Amsterdam.
"Thank you, Frenkie! Thank you, Frenkie!" Tens of thousands of people shouted in unison as his name rang through the speakers and the player greeted them fondly.
The player, who is in Portugal to play for the Netherlands in the final round of the League of Nations, will join Barcelona on 1 July.
