Casillas urges patience with referees, backs Alonso at Madrid

The former Real Madrid and Spain captain defended officials while discussing the red card shown to centre-back Dean Huijsen against Real Sociedad.

Casillas described the incident as "like so many other expulsions" and highlighted the inevitability of debate around refereeing decisions. "Controversies will always exist," he said.

"Whenever a sending-off favours Madrid, it sparks discussion, and if it goes against them, it's the same. In the end, you have to let referees do their job."

The 44-year-old also praised Madrid's strong start under Xabi Alonso, noting the club's four wins from four league matches. "It gives the team a good cushion, strength, and momentum, which we hope will carry them into the Champions League, Real Madrid's signature competition," he said.

On individual player management, Casillas highlighted Vinicius Junior's potential under Alonso. "Xabi has always been a very intelligent player, and that carries off the pitch too. He will get the most out of every player, and Vinicius is hugely important for Real Madrid.

"I'm convinced Alonso will help him reach even greater heights," he concluded.
